Sneaker Statistics

Nike is a powerhouse in the shoe industry, but you don’t have to take our word for it. Sometimes statistics speak louder than words and what better way to learn the facts than in a concise format? Whether you’re a journalist who needs some information for an article, a student looking for content for a paper or just a sneaker head eager to be educated, odds are you’ll love our info graphic.

The Evolution of Air Jordan

Michael Jordan is considered the best basketball player in the history of the NBA. Beyond that, he is known for his success in the sneaker industry with his trademark brand Air Jordan. People from around the world recognize Michael Jordan because of this, even without having to watch clips of his games. During his professional career, he was awarded multiple MVPs and NBA Championships, along with two gold medals from the Olympics in the 90s.

He became an icon not just in the basketball industry, but the sneakers market. According to CNN Money, Michael Jordan is one of the 290 newly-minted billionaires on Forbes’ annual list of people. Jordan amassed his $1 billion fortune partly through his endorsement deal with Nike.

Air Jordan I

The most memorable pair of shoes that Jordan has in his collection are the Air Jordan I Black/Red, released in 1985, the same year that Jordan was rookie of the year and played in the All-Star game. Surprisingly, the Air Jordan 1 was the first shoe to be worn in the NBA with multiple colors. The original Air Jordan 1 was released at $65.00. The same pair was re-released in 1994, 2001, 2003 and 2004.

Air Jordan 4

Another pair that captured attention was the Air Jordan 4 Black/Cement Grey- Fire Red. It was the first in the line that had an over-molded mesh. The designer dipped the mesh in a soft plastic and blew air through it to clear out the plastic in between. When the shoe was released in 1989, people disliked because they said it looked ugly.  However, in time, it gained popularity and currently sells for $125.00 – $175.00.

Air Jordan 3White_Cement

The third pair is the Jordan 3 White/Cement, which were released in 1987-1988. It was in these years that Jordan shined on the court. He won the Slam Dunk contest, All Star MVP, All-Defensive First Team and Defensive Player of the Year. Through all this success, he was wearing the Air Jordan 3. In 2001 and 2003 when the Air Jordan 3 was re-released, the price tag was $100.00, but it currently retails for $160.00.

Jordan’s success in sales shows that he is more than just an athlete. With a notable name and devoted fans, he was able to turn something as simple as a sneaker into a large-scale industry. Visit the official website to order your very own pair of Air Jordans or find a store near you that sells them.

Colorful Shoes For Warmer Weather

When the warmer weather washes over, you may think it’s time to toss the sneakers away in a closet. Why trudge through high heat with sweaty shoes when you can wear flip-flops or even go around barefoot? For athletes and sneakerheads, the slight suffering is worth it when you get to show off a nice pair of kicks. Check out this year’s selection of springtime shoes and think about swapping those flops for something fit!

When wearing these shoes, you might be inclined to start rapping, “Everything I do, I do it big. That’s nothin,’ that’s stuntin.” Catch the reference? It’s okay, you don’t have to be a hardcore fan of the Wiz Khalifa anthem “Black and Yellow” to show off these multi-colored shoes, but it would be pretty awesome. Filled with a vibrant yellow to balance the deep shade of black, these kicks are cool!

From colorful to sleek and everything in between, there’s a shoe to match any personality. When winter transitions to spring, think about keeping the sandals stowed away and the sneakers by your front door. Keep your toes tucked inside and put on sneakers for a wild ride.

4 Unique Sets of Sneakers

Have you ever wanted a new pair of shoes, but nothing seems to match your personality? We launched NIKEiD, a platform that allows sneaker enthusiasts to design a one-of-a-kind shoe online and get it shipped to their front door. However, after a little digging, we soon discovered that sometimes classics trump modern technology. Some sneakerheads are using their artistic talents to create customized shoes with simple supplies.

1.)

nike-zebra

Rihanna was seen sporting these shoes at the 2015 NBA All-Star Game. They were made by a fan who used oil-based paint and stencils to create the design and then sent her the sneakers as a gift. Rihanna loved the animal print so much that she decided (with permission, of course) to adopt the artwork for the cover of her latest album, Hotness.

2.) nike-woody

Pixar fans unite! An intern at Pixar, who is also a Toy Story enthusiast, designed these shoes, which were inspired by the iconic cowboy, Woody. There is only one pair in existence, which was auctioned off for $65,000 at an Autism Speaks fundraising event in 2016. We applaud Pixar for using our products to advocate for such a great cause!

3.) lebron

WNBA All-Star Elena Delle Donne, who currently plays for the Washington Mystics, designed the first edition of these shoes on a white sneaker with a few markers. Seen above is the finished design, which she proudly showed off at Washington’s Gay Pride Parade in the summer of 2016.

4.) batman

We discovered these at New York Comic Con in 2014 on the feet of a superhero fanatic. The creator said she designed them by drawing on fabric and supergluing it onto the sneakers. When asked why not make a matching pair, she remarked that there’s simply no way to choose between the superheros she grew up reading about in comic books.
